Parent Carer Week 2020
The right place for the right support at the right time…
This week we will be celebrating Parent Carers. An often forgotten group of carers that really deserve a special mention.
A parent carer is someone aged over 18 who provides care to a child with a special educational need or disability (SEND) for whom they have parental responsibility.
Throughout this week we will dedicate our social media to supporting and celebrating parent carers from all over the city. please check out our Facebook page to get involved: facebook.com/sunderlandcarerscentre
We want to hear from Parent Carers this week to help others understand what its like being a Parent Carer. If comfortable, please inbox us on Facebook or email us at contactus@sunderlandcarers.co.uk with a short description of what its like being a Parent Carer.
We may use your quotes to share experiences but we will never share your name. All quotes used will be anonymous.
Check out a story from one of our own parent carers!
Maureen Morris understands what it is like to have a child who needs extra support. It is 24 years since the 64 year-old from Washington adopted daughter Caitlin, and almost every day since has been a journey of hard-earned discovery.
“Being a parent is the most extraordinary job – and one that comes with its fair share of challenges. But being a parent-carer is something entirely different – it’s something no parent can ever prepare themselves for,” – Maureen.
