Activities at Sunderland Libraries

Holocaust Memorial Day - Don't Stand By

Kindertransport was the transportation of over 10,000, mainly Jewish, children from Germany/Austria etc. to England just before the start of WW2.  In the 1980's a relative of a Kindertransport refugee created a quilt which was inspired by squares produced by a number of other relatives and refugees themselves.  Sunderland Libraries are working with artist Louise Underwood to recreate a quilt with Grangetown Primary and their interpretation of what Kindertransport means to them.  This will be displayed at City Library from 19th January until after Holocaust Memorial Day 27th January and then given back to the school at a legacy.

Sporting Memories

Thursday 14th January, Sandhill Centre Library, 10.30am.

Do you love sport?  Do you remember the first football or rugby match you went to?  What was sport like at school?  What sport did you play with friends in the street?  How about Spot the Ball?  Sporting Memories is a new group that encourages like-minded people to get together to discuss their love of sport and to share memories that are triggered through the use of images and donated items.  Billy Wright will be displaying memorabilia that belonged to his father, Arthur, who served Sunderland Football Club between 1934 - 1969.  Come along to the first session for a friendly and relaxed chat about all things sport with "half-time" refreshments!!  For more information contact Sunderland Libraries on (0191) 561 8474.
