New Carers Information Hub opened at Hopewood Park
The new Carers Information Hub at the Barton Centre, Hopewood Park Hospital has been officially opened today.
The opening on Carers Rights Day was attended by carers and staff from Sunderland Carers' Centre, Mental Health Concern Carer Support South Tyneside and Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW).
The dedicated room will support carers and families of service users and give them the chance to talk in confidence about their experiences and to find out what help they themselves might need.

Carers Rights Day – Friday 28th November 2014
Today is Carers Rights Day. This year the theme is ‘Looking after someone? Know your rights’ focusing on reaching carers and helping them to get the advice and information they need to know their rights and access practical support.
As part of Carers Rights Day Carers UK have launched a new guide called “Looking after someone – Carers Rights Guide 2014 – 15”.
From April 2015 carers will have new rights as a result of the Care Act 2014. This guide includes an overview of the key changes.

Disability Swim Session
There is an exclusive use disability swim session on Saturday 29th November, 3.45pm - 4.45pm, at Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre for disabled children and their families.
The cost is £2.20 per person or family ticket £5.25 (maximum 2 adults and 2 young people).

Hopewood Park Hospital Carers Information Hub Launch
Sunderland Carers' Centre and Mental Health Carer Support South Tyneside would like to invite carers to come along and join us in celebrating the launch of the Carers Information Hub in the Barton Centre on
Carers Rights Day, Friday 28th November from 11.30am - 1.30pm, at Hopewood Park Hospital, Ryhope, Sunderland SR2 0NB.
Opening ceremony 12 noon by John Lawlor, Chief Executive of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.
Buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided. Carers' support services information will be available and you will have the opportunity to talk to carer support staff at the event.

Mental Health Crisis Support Survey
The McPin Foundation is a small charity that carries out mental health research. It is carrying out a short survey of people's experiences of mental health crisis support care. They are interested in hearing from people who have themselves experienced a mental health crisis that needed urgent help and people who care for someone that needed urgent help for a mental health crisis.
The survey will give them a picture of what mental health crisis support is like and how it can be improved.

Sunderland City Council Budget Consultation 2015/2016
Sunderland City Council would like people to take part in their Budget Consultation for 2015/2016. You can do this in two ways, by:
Attending a workshop on Tuesday 25th November, 6pm - 8pm, at the Civic Centre. The workshop will give you the opportunity to hear more about the council's approach and give your views. Carers Coffee Morning
Our next coffee morning is on Monday 17th November, 10am - 12 noon, at Sunderland Carers' Centre, Thompson Park, Thompson Road, Sunderland SR5 1SF.
All carers welcome. Come along for tea, coffee and a chat.
Washington Carers Group donate gifts to families in need
Well done to Washington Carers Group who have been collecting toys, gifts and non-perishable food items throughout the year to donate to the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army will distribute the gifts to families in the Washington and Sunderland areas struggling to afford Christmas shopping.
Carer and group volunteer Richard Bell said "This is the third year running that our members have been collecting gifts for the appeal - it's now become an annual event for the carers group. Once again we have had a fantastic response."
