Sunderland Parent Carer Coffee Morning

The next Parent Carer Coffee Morning is on Thursday 6th March, 10am - 12 noon, at Sunderland Carers' Centre, Thompson Park, Thompson Road, Sunderland SR5 1SF.

There will be a guest speaker, Angie Mills, from City Equals Sex Education Project for young people aged over 13.

Carers Coffee Evening - Wednesday 5th March

Would you like to meet up with other carers on an evening for coffee, tea and a chat?

If so, come along to our Carers Coffee Evening on Wednesday 5th March, 6.30pm - 8.15pm, at Sunderland Carers' Centre, Thompson Park, Thompson Road, Sunderland SR5 1SF.

Disability Swim Session

There is an exclusive use disability swim session tomorrow, Saturday 22nd February, 3.45pm - 4.45pm, at Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre for disabled children and their families.

The cost is £2.20 per person or family ticket £5.25 (maximum 2 adults and 2 young people).

There is an exclusive use disability swim session tomorrow, Wednesday 19th February, 10am - 11am, at Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre for disabled children and their families.

Warming up your home

Warm Up North logoA package of measures is available to eligible households in Sunderland to help them warm up their homes.

Warm Up North offers fully or partly funded home improvements to eligible home owners and tenants.

Eligible householders:

  • may live in a property that is not very energy efficient and hard to heat
  • may live in an eligible area
  • may be in receipt of a means tested state benefit

Following a home visit to check eligibility, a Warm Up North assessor will recommend a tailored package of improvements to help make the property warmer and save money on energy bills.  These may include a new central heating boiler, loft insulation, cavity wall or solid wall insulation or renewable energy technologies.

Time to Talk Day - Thursday 6th February 2014

Tomorrow is Time to Talk Day - a national awareness day which aims to encourage people to talk about mental health.

Do you look after a relative or friend with mental illness in Sunderland?

If so, Sunderland Carers' Centre can offer you information, advice and support.

We also run carers support groups in Sunderland and Washington specifically for mental health carers where you can meet and talk to other carers in a similar situation.

Planning for the Future Event - for carers of people with a learning disability

If someone in your family or someone you care for has a learning disability, you can take steps now to ensure their finances are well looked after when you are no longer around.

Mencap have organised a free information session where you can find out more about setting up wills and trusts for the benefit of someone with a learning disability.

The session is on Monday 3rd March, 6.30pm - 8.30pm, at the National Glass Centre, Liberty Way, Sunderland SR6 0GL.

We will be holding an information stall at Sunderland Royal Hospital on Tuesday 4th February, from 10am - 1pm, in the Outpatients Department, Chester Wing and from 1.30pm - 3.30pm, in the Hylton Road Block (next to the lifts on Level B).
